Mandela Day – Join us to sing Happy Birthday

The 18th July is Nelson Mandela’s Birthday. It has also been declared Mandela Day but the United Nations as a celebration of our very own Madiba.  The day honours Nelson Mandela’s life work to ensure his legacy lasts forever and was initiated by the Nelson Mandela foundation.

The overriding message of Mandela Day is a global call to action to take responsibility for changing the world into a better place, just one small step at a time.  The request is that individuals give 67 minutes of their time on Mandela Day towards humanity. This could be supporting a chosen charity or serving your local community.  67 minutes of community service is the symbolic number of the number of years Madiba spent fighting for social justice

Nelson Mandela said,  “ You will achieve more in this world through acts of mercy than you will through acts of retribution”

Lead SA is an initiative that encourages South Africans to stand up and lead South Africa for the sake of our families, communities and our country.  One of these initiative is the #Sing4Madiba project where they are encouraging as many people as possible to sing Happy Birthday to Madiba at 8am on the 18 July 2012, in addition to doing 67 minutes of community service.  It will be Nelson Mandela’s 94th birthday.
