The eMzantsi community-building project is going completely BOS for Heritage Day this year, with not one but three concerts over the weekend! In the third of their quarterly 4WAY LIVE show series for 2011, eMzantsi music acts will be performing in Simonstown on Friday, in Noordhoek on Saturday and in Masiphumelele on Sunday.
The first show will be at the Simonstown School from 1pm on Friday 23rd Sept. As part of the Simonstown Spring Festival, the eMzantsi Carnival Roadshow will also dance along from the station to Jubliee Square with a giant puppet and a brass band from 12 noon on Sat 24th Sept.
On Saturday afternoon, the Roadshow will move to the Noordhoek Farm Village, where the giant puppet will dance along to eMzantsi music project acts as part of their Heritage Day Poitjie Challenge from 2pm.
On Sunday 25th the party continues as the eMzantsi Carnival Roadshow and music acts entertain at the Masi Massive big braai at Kolobe St, Masiphumelele from 4pm.
This year, the eMzantsi project is challenging youth across the south peninsula to engage with environmental issues around their 2011 theme ‘eMzantsi Goes BOS!’. At all of these eMzantsi 4WAY LIVE events, you will hear original songs written by music project participants about climate change as well as the 783 Movement from Ocean View, the Restoration Choir from Masi and the band Fax Police who have taken off since becoming part of ‘School of Rock’ at Fish Hoek High School.
Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, there’s no cover charge at any of these shows. eMzantsi is about making unity fun, and this year we’ll be going BOS at all our green events! For more information call the eMzantsi office 021 785 1515 or see www.emzantsi.org.za
The giant eMzantsi climate change puppet Father Time is half metal, half green – torn as we are between technology and nature. The puppet Princess Mamlambo is a mermaid who teaches the children on this year’s eMzantsi primary schools twinning programme about water conservation and leads them in the eMzantsi Carnival parade. See them dancing at eMzantsi events all over the peninsula this Heritage Day weekend.
